I’m very excited to share this new album on which I played piano! The Butterfly consists of new classical pieces by the great composer Mark Christopher Brandt: a titular five-part suite for string quartet and piano, plus two solo piano pieces. It was an amazing privilege to work on this beautiful music and be involved with sharing it with the world.
This music represents a much-needed return to melody and beauty in the contemporary classical world. The suite for strings and piano has been well-received: California Poet Laureate/former NEA chairman Dana Gioia describes it as “fresh, inventive and alive.” The string quartet is amazing: Katherine Callaghan, Jennifer Bockstege, Christopher Dixon and Emil Cheytanov set a wonderful example for me to follow in musicianship and professionalism.
Working on this project and learning from Mark, a consummate and selfless artist, and his beautiful music was a major gift from God and a musical milestone for me. (That I wouldn’t have expected to find myself recording “classical” music makes it even cooler.) I hope it brings joy to many listeners!
